As part of the effort to strengthen the protection of the refugee population in Greece, and in particular of those individuals (women, men, LGBTQI+) who have suffered Gender- Based Violence and/or are at high risk of GBV, Diotima Centre implements a project funded by the UNHCR-Greece, providing holistic support services, which consist of the following components:
a) GBV response, through the provision of case management, and legal aid including court representation when necessary.
b) GBV prevention, through the provision of awareness raising activities to asylum seeking and refugee communities, as well as the delivery of trainings on Gender-Based Violence, and ways to prevent and respond to its incidence.
The project is implemented in the urban areas of Athens and Thessaloniki, and on the islands of Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos and Leros.
Main Responsibilities:
- Liaison with refugee communities (formal and informal), on Kos and Leros islands.
- Establish trustful relationships and develop cooperation with community representatives, and members of refugee communities and refugee self-advocacy informal groups.
- Organize and hold weekly seminars to refugee groups to raise awareness on gender issues, and to provide information on –indicatively- the following: types and forms of Gender-Based Violence, ways to support other members of the community who have suffered GBV, and/or are at risk of GBV, available services on Kos and Leros, referral pathways and protection mechanisms.
- Focus on the female and male refugee population (including LGBTQI+ individuals) living on Kos and Leros, with the aim of creating multiple engagement groups and setting up peer to peer networks of support, in order to prevent incidents of Gender-Based Violence and provide guidance and support to survivors.
- Ongoing cooperation with representatives of the various refugee communities to facilitate information and awareness-raising on issues related to gender roles, stereotypes and ways to prevent GBV within the communities.
- Continuous cooperation with the GBV Prevention Assistant Officers in Athens, Lesvos and Thessaloniki, with the aim of optimizing service provision and education material.
- Continuous cooperation and communication with the GBV Prevention Coordinator in terms of supervision, guidance, objectives and goals of the service, and reporting responsibilities.
- Provide accurate interpretation, transmit precisely the content and style of oral communications.
- Cooperate with patience and respect towards beneficiaries to ensure that there is a good communication and beneficiaries understand all the discussions and relevant procedures.
- Accompany beneficiaries to service providers along with Diotima Centre’s social worker, psychologist or lawyer whenever necessary.
- Cooperate with all members of the team.
Required Skills:
- Fluent in Greek or English (written and spoken).
- Fluency or native speaking proficiency in Arabic.
- Professional working proficiency in French will be considered an added, competitive advantage.
- Very good level of PC and Social Media literacy.
- Excellent communication and cooperation skills and qualities.
- Relevant work experience and/or training will be taken into account.
