Position: GBV Prevention Assistant Officer/Interpreter (Ukrainian)

As part of the effort to strengthen the protection of the refugee population residing in Greece, and in particular of those individuals (women, men, LGBTQI+) who have suffered Gender-Based Violence and/or are at high risk of  GBV, Diotima Centre implements a program funded by UNHCR, providing holistic support services, which consists of the following components: a) GBV response, through the provision of case management, and legal aid including court representation when necessary, and b) GBV prevention, through the provision of awareness raising activities to refugee communities, as well as the delivery of trainings to refugee women and men on Gender-Based Violence, and the ways to prevent and respond to its incidence. The program is implemented in the Urban Areas of Athens and Thessaloniki, and on the islands of Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos and Leros.

  1. Liaison with refugee communities (forma and informal), in the urban area of Thessaloniki. Establish trustful relationships and build cooperation with community representatives, and members of those communities and informal groups.
  2. Organizing and holding weekly seminars to refugee groups to raise awareness on gender issues, and to provide information on –indicatively- the following: types and forms of Gender-Based Violence, ways to support other members of the community who have suffered GBV, and/or are at risk of GBV, available services in Urban Thessaloniki, referral pathways and mechanisms.
  3. Focus on the male refugee population living in Thessaloniki, with the aim to create multiple male engagement groups and set up peer to peer networks of support, in order to prevent further incidents of Gender-Based Violence and provide guidance and support to male and female survivors.
  4. Ongoing cooperation with representatives of the various refugee communities to facilitate information and awareness-raising on issues related to gender roles, stereotypes and ways to prevent additional incidents of GBV within the communities.
  5. Continuous cooperation with GBV Prevention Assistant Officers in Athens and Lesvos, with the aim to optimize service provision and education material. Continuous cooperation and communication with the GBV Prevention Coordinator in terms of guidance, objectives and goals of the service, and reporting.
  6. Provide accurate interpretation, transmit precisely the content and style of oral communications.
  7. Cooperate with patience and respect with beneficiaries to ensure that there is a good communication and beneficiaries understand all the discussions and relevant procedures.
  8. Accompany beneficiaries along with the social worker or psychologist whenever necessary.
  9. Cooperate with all members of team.

 

Required Skills:

  • Fluent in Greek or English (written & spoken).
  • Excellent knowledge of Ukrainian
  • Very good level of PC and Social Media literacy
  • Excellent communication and cooperation skills and qualities
  • Relevant work experience and/or Training (will be taken into account)
