March 8 – International Women’s Day, instituted to commemorate the great strike of textile workers in New York (March 8, 1857), is a landmark day for the modern struggles of women and femininities around the world.
From Latin America to Spain, from America to Chile, from Greece to Turkey, and from China to Iran, women are rebelling while gender inequality, discrimination, and gender-based violence remain a grim everyday life for half the population of the planet.
The 8th of March – with its course in the past, the present, and the future – is for us a constant reminder that the struggle does not stop until the definitive elimination of historically established gender inequality until the conquest of meaningful equality.
In this context, the Diotima Center organizes and participates in various actions for International Women’s Day:

Thessaloniki
The Diotima Center of Thessaloniki and the “Irida” Women’s Center are organizing an event on Friday, March 6, 2020, from 11.00-14.00, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The event is aimed at Greek women, refugees, and immigrants and will take place in the welcoming space of the dance and music workshop “Horodentro“.
A painting and photography exhibition will be held in the space with the works of refugee women – served by the Diotima Center and the “Irida” Community Center for Women. The “Open House” will also participate in the exhibition with ceramic works by women.
During the event, we will taste flavors and listen to music from all over the world.
Through the event we seek to develop a dialogue between women, to freely exchange opinions and concerns about our rights, focusing on common concerns, experiences, and hopes, regardless of age and country of origin. There will be simultaneous interpretation in Arabic, Farsi, and English.
The action is implemented with the support of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees
