Gender violence: a phenomenon without borders
The event will take place at the Homeless Theatre of Mytilene, supported by the Office of the UNHCR.

As part of the global campaign against gender-based violence “16 Days of Activism”, the head of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lesbos, Astrid Castelein, and the Diotima Center, invite you to the event “Gender-based violence: a phenomenon without borders”, organized with the participation of the University of the Aegean. The event will take place on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 7:00 pm, at the Homeless Theater of Mytilene, 24 Theofrastou Street.

The spots of the “Don’t skip – Don’t skip gender-based violence” campaign implemented by the Center, with the kind support of the Papastratos company, will be shown. The event will also be attended by the star and co-creator of the campaign, actress Romanna Lobach. The short films “Our bodies” (award-winning film by Dimitris Ballotta and Claudia Cornea) and “Everything is fine” (award-winning film by Polixeni Fotopoulos) will also be screened.

A discussion will follow, in which the actress Romanna Lobach, Elina Karagiorgis, member of the Department of Protection of the YA, Natasha Kefallinou, Diotima’s Communication Manager, and Maria Sideri, member of the Equality and Equal Opportunities Committee of the University of the Aegean will speak.

Tolerance, silence, and stigma create a fertile ground for the escalation of violence against women. UNHCR and Diotima are making efforts to address incidents of gender-based violence.
