Short film screenings on everyday sexism
The event "4 stories about everyday sexism and the power of women's solidarity", on Thursday 23/11/2023, 6-9 pm, Thessaloniki.

Diotima Center in Thessaloniki, in collaboration with the International Short Film Festival of Alexandria, invites you to the event “4 stories about everyday sexism and the power of female solidarity”, on Thursday 23/11/2023, 6-9 pm, at the Hall of Speech and Art, 10th floor, Tower of the Pedagogical School, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The event, which takes place on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, will screen 4 short films, each of which in its own way attempts to overturn the patriarchal gaze, highlighting the hidden or overt feminine aspects of a common or exceptional reality. In these visualized stories, the generalized everyday sexism faced by women and femininities is met with solidarity.

At the end of the screenings there will be a discussion with the filmmakers.

A few words about the films

  • La Protagoniste (Belgium, 2021) by Sarah Carlot Jaber

The protagonist, with the name that has been given to her, is presented to us in her natural environment: a jungle, which unfortunately lacks density, but today enough…is enough!

  • Asymmetric (Spain, 2022) by Javi Sánchez-Blanco

Through the use of mirrors in different situations, the film Asymmetric shows the journey of self-discovery of a disaffected young woman who leaves the one-sided relationship in which she is trapped.

  • The gallery (Germany, 2023) by Silvia Cannarozzi

At the opening of an art exhibition, a well-known critic meets a woman who challenges his certainties. Only in the end, he discovers the deeper meaning of the encounter.

  • 11:20 AM (Greece, 2022) by Dimitris Nakos

Olga, a housekeeper of Albanian origin, will find herself at the right time in a house she works in the centre of Athens, or is it the wrong time?
