The project “Gender-based Violence: (In)visible” is implemented by the Diotima Centre as part of the project “Athens Social Protection Network – Open Social Net”, funded by the Municipality of Athens, for the period September 2023 – November 2023.
Purpose
The action aims to raise awareness about the anti-stereotypical representation of gender-based violence, focusing on the role of art in creating social impact.
It aims to initiate a wider dialogue, through artistic expression, which will bring to the spotlight the perspective of women themselves on the healing of trauma and most importantly, their non-negotiable right to a life free from gender violence.
Actions
The project starts from the creative collaboration between women photographers and women who have experienced gender-based violence and have been supported by the Diotima Centre, attempting a participatory dialogue between trauma and artistic practice.
More specifically, the following will be implemented:
- Focus group with the participation of photographers, survivors and communication professionals of Diotima Centre, which will focus on the representation of the gender-based violence phenomenon.
- Production of photographic works, under the scientific supervision of the organization and the curator of the exhibition.
- Photographic exhibition in the context of the 25th of November.
- Open public discussion.
Expected results
- Giving voice to the survivors to reflect on their experience.
- Cultivating a photographic viewpoint that is sensitive to gender-based violence and equality issues.
- Educating the general public in an empowering, non-stereotypical and non-stereotypical representation of the phenomenon of gender-based violence
- Explore good practices and methods through which gender-based violence specialists and professional photographers and artists can cultivate empowering representations of the phenomenon
**The action is implemented as part of the Act “Social Protection Network of Athens – Open Social Net”, which is co-funded by the Operational Program “ATTICA 2014-2020” and the European Social Fund (OPS code 5074888).
