Five key steps for the woman who has suffered violence
Immediately move out of the reach of the perpetrator, taking her children and documents with her, and call 100.

To the frequent question “what can a woman who suffers gender-based violence do immediately?”, the Diotima Centre’s legal services manager, Angeliki Serafeim, answers:

  • Immediately move away from the reach of the perpetrator, taking her children, if any, and documents (ID/passports) with her, and call 100
  • To call a person she trusts if she feels the need for support/accompaniment in a hospital
  • Go immediately to a hospital for care of any injuries (or care for cases of risk of communicable diseases), where she will get a medical report recording the signs/injuries and their cause
  • To attend a police station, if they wish, to make a complaint under the self-reporting procedure
  • Call 15900 if she is in need of shelter in a safe place, psychological support, and legal advice
