As part of the effort to strengthen the protection of the refugee population residing in Greece, and in particular of those individuals (women, men, LGBTQI+) who have experiences of Gender-Based Violence and/or are at high risk for violence as such, Centre Diotima implements a program funded by UNHCR, providing holistic support services, which consist of the following components: a) GBV response, through the provision of case management, and legal aid until court representation where necessary, and b) GBV prevention, through the provision of awareness raising activities to the refugee communities, as well as the delivery of training to refugee women and men in regards to Gender-Based Violence, and the ways to prevent to respond to its incidents. The program is implemented in the Urban Areas of Athens and Thessaloniki, and on the islands of Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos and Leros

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Liaison with refugee communities, residing at and being active in the urban area of Athens, recognized, as well as informal ones. Establish trustful relationships and build cooperation with community representatives, and with the members of those communities and informal groups.
  2. Organizing and holding weekly seminars for refugee groups to raise awareness on gender issues, and to provide information on –indicatively- the following: types and forms of Gender-Based Violence, ways to support other members of the community who have or had experiences of GBV, available services in Athens urban, referral pathways and mechanisms.
  3. Focus on the male refugee population living in Athens, with the aim to create multiple male engagement groups and set up peer to peer networks of support, in order to prevent further incidents of Gender-Based Violence and provide guidance and support to male and female survivors.
  4. Ongoing cooperation with representatives of the various refugee communities to facilitate information and awareness-raising on issues related to gender roles, stereotypes and ways to prevent additional incidents of violence within the communities.
  5. Continuous cooperation with the Community Liaison Officers in Thessaloniki and Lesvos, with the aim to optimize the services provision and its educational material. Ongoing communication with the GBV Coordinator in terms of direction, guidance, objectives and goals of the service, and reporting.

Necessary Qualifications:

Very good knowledge of Greek (oral & written) and/or English

Excellent knowledge of Farsi (knowledge of French will be considered as a plus)

Very good level of PC and Social Media literacy

Excellent communication and cooperation skills and qualities

Relevant work experience and/or Training (will be taken into account)
